It was in the suburbs of Kansas City, Missouri, at her sixth birthday party when Mo Strother won a coloring contest judged by her grandma’s neighbor, Peggy—marking the heroic beginning of a life in the arts. She later became a three-time recipient of her middle school’s “Sense of Humor Character Trait Award,” a title that still shapes her creative outlook today.

Now pursuing a BFA in Photography, Mo creates playful, colorful, and flashy images reminiscent of the Crayola crayons that sparked her first win. She is a 2026 Golden Tusk Award recipient and a four-year Walton Family Art Scholarship recipient at the University of Arkansas, recognitions that have supported her creative growth.

As Head of Visuals for Hill Magazine and a Youth and Family Programs Intern at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Mo is passionate about teaching, community-building, and making art accessible. Through her work, she hopes to inspire the next generation of coloring book contest winners—and maybe one day be someone else’s Peggy.
